EBRD To Provide Additional Investment to VTB Georgia

Pending project approval, VTB Georgia is poised to receive a USD 7.3 million equity investment from the EBRD. The investment is aimed at helping VTB Georgia remain compliant with government regulation while also realizing growth through continued lending within the Georgian economy. VTB Georgia has already received the necessary technical assistance and training needed to help it remain stable and competitive. Funds for that assistance were provided through donations from the EU, France, Japan, the U.K., and USAID.

International Investors Lend Support to TBC Bank

Georgia's second largest bank, TBC Bank, is receiving financial assistance from a variety of international investors to help weather the global economic slowdown.

EBRD Loans USD 12 million to Georgian Food Retailer Populi

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided Georgian food retailer Populi with a USD 12 million loan. The loan will help Populi expand its network of retail stores as well as improve its ability to process fresh products. EBRD's loan will also be used to renovate the company's warehouse activities and centralize its processing plant's operations.

The EBRD is acquiring a 15% stake in Basis Bank, a privately-owned Georgian bank through subscription to new shares.

Georgian Investment Fund Launched by Kala Capital

Kala Capital, a Georgian private equity firm, announced the launch of the Georgian Investment Fund. The launching of the fund was presented by the Captain of the Georgian national football team and AC Milan player, Kakha Kaladze, as well as former Prime Minister of Georgia, Zurab Nogaideli, both founders of Kala Capital.
